Celebration in Honor of Bishop Dennis and Rev. Cynthia

We were happy to attend the celebration held in honor of Bishop Dennis Drainville and Rev. Cynthia Patterson. The event was held March 11, 2017 in Quebec City. It was attended by church dignitaries, involved church members as well as friends and family.
Several speeches were given of a serious nature marking the career of Bishop Drainville but there were also many humorous stories, a few poems and even a song or two!
The atmosphere was warm and celebratory, marking the end of one career and the beginning of the career of Rev Cynthia Patterson amongst accolades for her work in the church community.

The Corner of the Beach Historical Society would like to thank Bishop Drainville for his many years of support.

Pat and Sunny Vibert

Taxes have been mailed. This includes 3010 form for Fed.Gov.

Update to Lettres Patentes completed for Que.Gov.

Great to see our finances in better shape than last year.

All outstanding bills paid and money in the bank to start next year.

We have applied to the Federal Gov. for a grant of $25000. to add handicap access at the museum.

If we are awarded this grant it will cover 100% of cost to build road parking and walkway at rear of Museum.

Also in this project is electrical upgrade ,which is long overdue.

We will not hear until March. Hope we are successful.

Special thanks to Denise Ladouceur who filled out all paperwork and was the liaison with the gov. agency .

Thanks to Earle Mabe for leasing to us the land(nominal fee of $1.00 annually) required for the road, parking etc.

Prix de Memoires Vivantes

Attached are the pictures from the presentation ceremony in Chandler, QC of the prizes for “Prix de Memoires Vivantes“, a new competition for cultural organizations in the Percé Regional Municipality which includes the are from Port Daniel to Prevel. I am delighted to say that the first prize ever awarded went to the Musée culturel de Coin du Banc- Corner of the Beach Cultural Museum!!! Those accepting on our behalf are Janet Harvey in orange blouse holding the art work and on either side of her, Pat and Sunny Vibert. Janet Harvey who is one of the directors of the Corner of the Beach Historical Society was instrumental in winning this award for us since she was able to do all the entry requirements on the computer and in French. At the ceremony today e were highly praised for our efforts in preserving our English cultural and sharing our building and events with our Francophone neighbours. This award had a $500. cheque for SHCBHS as well. Through Pat and Sunny`s efforts and help from Vision Percé-Gaspé, we obtained a grant from the federal govt. which will be allow us to hire a student from the end of June to end of August to be in the museum from 11-4 six days a week. An improvisational music camp “Musical Improvisation at Land`s End“ and The Percé Film Festival will be renting the building for two periods in August so the efforts of all those who support SHCBHS are beginning to come to fruition. A personal thank-you to all of you.unnamedunnamed-1
